Our Family & Program

Harry was born and raised in North Dakota, where he grew up on a large farming and cattle enterprise. In 1969, Harry’s father had the foresight to use semen from a new “exotic” breed introduced in Canada ~ Simmental. Performance was excellent, and the Moser feeder cattle and bulls were sold at a premium by private treaty, and in 1980, the Moser family held their first production sale in Mandan, ND.

Lisa was born and raised on a general crop and livestock farm in northeast Kansas. Black baldy cows and an Angus bull comprised the genetic base. In the late ’70′s, her father bought his first Simmental bull to use on the baldy cowherd. Weaning weights were tremendous, and the Simmental influence was there to stay.

After their marriage in 1982, Harry and Lisa spent four years farming and ranching in southwest North Dakota with Harry’s parents. In 1986, an opportunity presented itself to manage a large ranch in northeast Kansas. From 1986 to 1994, they managed the 2700 acre Limestone Springs Ranch, running approximately 250 head of commercial cows as well as developing their Simmental program and customer base. In February 1994, one day after their second Simmental bull sale, the Mosers moved to the spot they now call home, approximately 40 miles northeast of Manhattan to a farm near Wheaton, Kansas. AI has been used extensively since 1980, and ET has been utilized since 1991. The Moser Angus program began with the purchase of what was felt to be the perfect Angus female, from the standpoints of phenotype, proven genetic lines, and performance. “Fink’s Pride 221 04 Bando” was purchased from Fink Beef Genetics in November 1993. The Red Angus breed was introduced into the Moser operation when embryos from the Pelton Red Angus & Simmental operation were purchased and planted in May 1996. In the late 90’s, Mosers began focusing on the production of superior F1 bulls and females to supply yet another product for a rapidly growing facet of their customer needs. Black and Red SimAngus bulls now make up the majority of the sale offering each year. Performance, predictability and customer service are the cornerstones of our program.

The Moser children have now grown, and two are back at Moser Ranch. Cameron married Carrie in 2008, and continues as farm manager, making all farming decisions and doing the lion’s share of the farming himself while helping out on the cattle side when needed. Carrie is a fulltime nurse, but loves to ride horse when she gets the chance. Also in 2008, Kendra married Rex Michaelis. Rex helps full-time on the cattle side in addition to managing a commercial herd near Maple Hill. Rex is a K-State grad in Ag Journalism and he is an intelligent young cattleman-fun to work with and smart when it comes to handling livestock. Kendra is busy being a wife and a mom and finishing up her college degree at Kansas State University in Early Childhood Education. Their two little guys, Tucker and Tate have brought a special joy to all our lives. Kayla is a junior studying at Kansas State University, majoring in Secondary Education (Biological Sciences) with an additional desire to coach high school athletics.  We are a family affair!
